My father Hamish Askew was originally a post man and a treat was going on an evening occasionally to pick up the mail from Albert on the Cromarty Boat. I never met him, just sat in the van waiting for dad to come back. We used to go on the other ferry as children to Balblair with Ted Aburrow and have a picnic and it shows the differences to today as we went on our own - just a couple of kids and hoped Ted remembered to come back for us and didn't go to the pub!

There was a shed at top of jetty. When you wanted the ferry you opened a hatch which was white inside to signal you wanted the ferry.
