Football Team ImageI wonder if anyone can help with identifying the location, occasion, people and date associated with this photo that came into my possession recently.
The location is fairly straightforward as it appears to be taken at the corner of the Recreation Ground on Academy Road looking over the railway line towards the tanks. What I find a little strange is that only one tank is visible and I would have expected to see more to the centre and left of the image. Interestingly the image was not taken on the playing surface as the grass is far too long!
The occasion is likely pre/post football match between unknown teams (Invergordon may have been involved?). My father may have been involved with Dingwall Thistle at the time but I thought that their strip had vertical stripes.
The only person that I can identify is my late father, David Mackay from Alness, back right. Other than him I don’t recognise any of the other faces. The date is probably early 1950s.
It would be great to find out more about this wonderful image.

It may have been taken at Black Park, the tanks stopped/started there..I dont recognize any of the players and guess the date late 40's or very early 50's.

I believe the date & location are correct.
I recognize an old work mate, Jackie Fraser (Plumber) standing far left. The tall chap in the back row looks like David Watt (Ross-Shire Journal). Rossie McMahon (Coal Merchant) second from left, front row.
All from Dingwall

I have looked at this and apart from the location can't really make an Invergordon connection. I think you are correct Duncan in identifying David Watt in the back row, perhaps an old Dingwall Thistle team. David Watt passed away in 2023 aged 94 which would make Dave 22/23 in 1952.As a guess the dating of the photo would seem to be about right .
