Lovely to see such a good picture of Uncle Tom and Sybil's father.

Ah yes, of the "Tommy Ross's" mentioned on this site this is the man that I know. "Big Dave", my great uncle who had the grocer's opposite Tommy's shop, sent me over to Tommy to get "rubber nails". Tommy had me searching all over the shop until he just collapsed with laughter and told me that "rubber nails" didn't exist. He and Dave laughed about that for a long time. Tommy and Dave used to have their lunch together sometimes in either of their shops and Tommy asked me one day if I liked "second day" soup. When I said "yes" he said "then come back tomorrow". He was quite a character and enjoyed a good laugh.
