The Invergordon Archive

Not sure of exact date but I think taken in summer of 1965 when we had temporary jobs at Invergordon distillery .

The little Shop was owned by Mrs Ross Mckenzie I think. She and her husband owned a lot of the feus in Saltburn Road and my dad strongly objected to paying feu duty. I used to be sent along to her house on the last day possible with an envelope to pay it. One of the ladies that worked there had a daughter Cath who married Kenny Maclean - Diana's son and a schoolfriend of my uncle Ian Askew. They emigrated to Australia.

My mother was the lady who worked in the shop, her name was Chrissie and 6 years after my father Murdo died she married Dickie Patience

I think I may have taken this photo with Morris’s camera. George is right about the summer job at the distillery. Alastair Ogg used to pick us up in his father’s Armstrong-Siddley.
Fond memories of working under Docken Johnstone at the cooperage, and with Hec MacRae (welder) and Alex Duthart (blacksmith) during the maintenance period, when everybody got paid the same overtime rate.

Nice to see a photo of Morris Scott was in my class at the academy if he is the one who lived at Rosskeen.
