The Invergordon Archive

Almost certain the location is the old stone ferry slip to the west of the basin now covered by the base at Shore Road. Don't know occasion.

Definitely the ferry slip, the larger vessel in the background is the first Invergordon Lifeboat which was moored off until a berth was obtained at the Dockyard Pier. As the Invergordon RNLI station was established in 1974, this may help fix the date. However, the vessel may still have been used for crew training at time of picture, and not been fully operational.

Definitely the old ferry slip...could well be the "Hilton Briggs" - the RNLI training boat that came up to start off the station at Invergordon. Gentleman looks very like Summy Macdonald from Balblair who started off Macdonald Ferries???? - could be mistaken though…..

I think you're right, Duncan. I worked for Macdonald Ferries and that looks like Summy to me - we used to call him 202.
