High Street, Invergordon, Looking West

Just east of the cross-roads, looking west. The picture dates from the mid 1950s and shows some interesting details - phone box outside the Town Hall, no street lights, telegraph poles, etc.

Comments:
If you look closely you can see one of the old street lights on the telegraph pole above the car on the right hand side. They were only on a few poles, and were 250 watt light bulbs (could have been less as they weren't very bright) open to the weather. We had one of these opposite my home, 32 High Street, and I remember watching the borough surveyor, I believe it was Mr. Woodburn, climbing a ladder to change a bulb. Think it might be more the early 50s as I that looks like one of the farm carts in the distance. I remember my grandmother Mrs. Taylor rushing out with a shovel and bucket after the cart passed to collect some free manure.
