Should have added, maybe someone could take a picture from the same spot for a comparison.

Looks like the NATO fleet is in port. These sailors look as if they are wearing Dutch or German uniforms. Only two "pickets" on patrol, maybe heading to make sure the milk machine outside Boyd's is still there before heading to the police station down the road. Does anyone remember the snowball fight with the British fleet on one side of the road and all other fleets on the other (after they'd visited the Naafi)

Hi Eddie, I remember hearing about the snowballs but didn't witness it. The NAAFI I do remember. Us kids used to sneak in and do a sort of show for the matlots and they would throw pennies at us. I do mean at us, some with force. My mother worked at the NAAFI canteen

My mother used Anne Darling worked in the NAAFI too

Now this is very familiar scene...the Fleet is in port and everything livened up. Do folk remember how unfamiliar women arrived in town with the fleet? God knows what these sailors made of Invergordon...there wasnt much to do and as far as I can recall there was no local committee/organisation which prepared for their arrival and arranged events.

Hi Billy, yes remember the women that followed the home fleet. Noticed them get off the train when I worked at the station..

There was only the NAAFI canteen and local pubs..lots of singing
