Saltburn Road, Invergordon
The wild sea as a result of Storm Brendan which has brought winds of up to 80mph today.

I have lived on Saltburn Rd for 34 years and although it is common to get spray over the sea wall I have never seen the sheer volume of water that came over yesterday. The winds never reached the 80 mph that other areas got but the combination of high tide, high wind and sea swell conspired to give this dramatic effect that stretched the length of Saltburn Road and right out to Balintraid. The amateur photo does not do full justice to the scene and I got a severe drenching from one of the waves as well !!!! This came up very suddenly on the back of a beautiful sunrise on a relatively calm morning.

A great picture, Graham, and it must have been very difficult to stand still in such a strong wind.

Hi Graham, very familiar scene that hasnt changed much over time. Taken close to where the old swimming pool was located ?
Willie Mackay, Shortie and others and myself, used to toss boulders around here for distance and just for something to do.

Photo taken approx 100 yards east of the end of the old swimming pool. The car parked is outside the semi detached flat roofed house occupied by Bill Sutherland the Vet on one side and Hamish Askew on the other side.

It was indeed difficult to keep steady but in this case my natural ballast was a help !!!

Remember standing at that point about 60 years ago watching dolphins in the firth. The tide was high and they were so close in I could hear them breaking.

Hi Brian, I remember the Dolphin's or Porpoise in the firth chasing Mackerel, pure turmoil and if you were in a small boat and they swam underneath, it would scare the heck out of you no doubt about it..

Great memories of growing up on Saltburn Road and literally having the sea right on our doorstep and the old swimming pool just along the way.
