This is my stepfather, Angus Mackenzie, who was a store-man at Invergordon Smelter. He is actually reading an article about the smelter closing down in 1981.

absolutely devastated the whole community especially with Nig and Shand's having no work either especially on top of the miners strike, was tough times for our parents and we really didn't understand

Every now and again I look at the archives of Invergordon to remember what a great thriving highland town she was, the memories flood back to my dad John Johnston and all the men from the smelter , to all my class mates from the 70,s Paul Todd,Robert Sutherland,mark Sutherland,Frankie brown,drew MacDonald,all the girls Amanda Fraser,Mandy Binnie(baby)michelle,Marie and everyone else and off course my favourite teacher miss Reid love you all hope you are all happy…….. from Clark Johnston, father 3 beautiful children,wife Esther all living in fife god bless xxx .

Completely devastated our family, we only moved to Invergordon because of the smelter and I couldn't wait to get out!
My Dad Matt Morton was a hard working man who just wanted the best for his family and he never quite recovered despite getting other jobs.
I moved to Glasgow and now live very happily in Spain.
