Overhead Conveyor and SmelterAn aerial view showing the completed overhead conveyor running from the Saltburn Pier to the Smelter. Work has also started on the 'ring road' from Saltburn to the BA Straight with a newly constructed bridge over the railway line. The picture was taken on 30th December 1970.

Don't know who wrote the above version, but the so called Saltburn ring road was in fact an internal road for the Material Handling squad with direct access to the pier and did NOT connect with the BA straight unless you went through security gates. The ring road only happened after the smelter shut, which was years later.
