Church of ScotlandRev. Duncan Fraser and Mr. Campbell, the beadle, during his early days as Minister of the Church of Scotland. (1930s)

Mr Campbell, the beadle, was a very dour and strict man, but his intensions were good, always wanted you to attend church. My sister was terrified of him. The Rev Fraser used to come to the school and sit in on bible classes. I remember him being in Miss Macintosh's class; he had a calming effect on her, if that is possible....

I don't think Mr. Campbell is the beadle that you and Peggy would remember. The gentleman in the photo is of an earlier era, clealy accompanying a newly arrived Rev. Duncan Fraser to his first and last appointment.

You are probably correct Freda. The one I remember was equally as grim though.

I've remembered that the beadle in our time was Mr. Dingwall.
