This must be the site of Taylor's Garage. Who owned the Victoria Garage?

Call me a Luddite but this is yet another development which will render the town increasingly unrecognisable to those who lived there 50/70 years ago. Solar pannels on the roof! Ugh!

The new houses/flats are called Dewdale Court after an RFA ship called the Dewdale.

In the background is the house Ardnamara where I and my family lived for 3 years in early 70's whilst acting as the local manager and tug captain for J P knight Caledonian Towage Co. When we were there I believe the garage was run by Frews.

Mackenzie of Brora owned the garage for a few years. They also had a garage in Dingwall. I worked at Frews from 1971 until 1986.

It seems to me that whatever charm Invergordon once had has been utterly destroyed my "modern" development. I am not opposed to new build providing it has some style and character but most of the new stuff in town is flat fronted, boring and devoid any architectural effort. I have visited many towns which suffered inappropriate "development" in the 1960's & 70's. Its sad to recognise that the lesson was no learnt by planners in this part of the country..it truly is dreadful.
