The Invergordon Archive

The man sitting in the centre was John Glavin from Queenstown, Cork. He trained in the Naval dockyard Houlbouline, Cork and was drafted to Invergordon in August 1915 as an Inspector of engine fitters. Documents found recently would indicate that he was in charge of the workshops and it seems that he remained there till the end of the war. We have group photographs which will be made available to this website.

I have a copy of this same photograph, which was passed down from my father. From looking at other photos in my possession, I am under the impression that the women sitting 1st left in the middle row is possibly my grandmother. However, if this is the case, I believe the photo would be earlier than 1920. She met my Grandfather, who was working in the dockyard during the war and they had both moved to Portsmouth by March 1919. He was originally from Portsmouth and he worked in the Dockyard there after the war. I would be very interested if anyone has any other information to back up or disprove my theory.
