Invergordon Hospital
The old Invergordon Hospital in its original form and how it must have looked in the 1920s and 30s. This is a fine postcard but the date of the picture is not known. Can anybody suggest who the members of the nursing staff in the picture may be?

My Mother was Sister Jean Beattie who nursed there in the early 1930s. She married and became Mrs Jean Mackenzie of 4 High Street Invergordon.

My husband's uncle died at Invergordon RN hospital in March 1919 - one of the many casualites of the 'flu epidemic. We have a letter written to his parents by the (male) nurse who was with him when he died. His name was William J. Boakes, or Billy as he signs himself. I am going to contact the Invergordon Museum to see if they would be interested in a copy of the letter and a photo of the uncle. He served on HMS Sobo and came from Glasgow. His older brother died in the Dardanelles in 1916. This photo presumably shows the hospital as it would have been in WW1 unless there was a separate hospital for the Royal Navy. Any information gratefully received!

Sheila, I think there was a naval hospital also. I believe it was in the building that became the old Infant's school.

My dad Hamish Askew was in the hospital with scarlett fever as a child. As I teenager I remember the young girls training as SEN's passing along Saltburn Road on their Saturday nights off. There was a nurses' home at the hospital then. My late stepmother Jessie (Pat) Askew (Chlodek) was a nursing sister there.

Hi, My Dad was sent to Invergordon naval hospital during WW2 firstly to recover from pleurisy and then to recover from 2 broken arms. is this the same hospital. i can find references to Seaforth Sanitorium but can find very little information about it?

Hi Ewan, the original Naval Hospital was established on this site in 1917. Your Dad would have gone here or to the other Naval Hospital that was located in the building that was the Primary School or Infants school, located on Cromlet drive, the building is still there. It was taken over by the navy during WW2.
